LED Light Therapy for Skin Rejuvenation

LED therapy has grown in popularity in the past few years. It promises to fight acne and signs of aging with the use of light technology. Is this magical light worth all the hype?

LED stands for Light Emitting Diode, which is a tiny computer chip encased in glass. LED light therapy delivers light energy in a similar way plants absorb light energy from the sun emitting UV-free, beneficial light rays that energize cells and stimulate the body's natural process to build new proteins and regenerate cells.

Each LED wavelength (color) of light provides unique therapeutic benefits. Let’s look at each “color”.
The RED LED light is most commonly used to promote circulation, the AMBER LED light stimulates collagen, the BLUE LED light targets acne and, the WHITE light reduces inflammation.

These treatments are usually add-ons to other treatments, but you can get LED therapy by itself. Unlike IPL or laser treatments, LED treatments carry no risk of burning.  An IPL treatment delivers a bright blast of light at very high energy levels through a hand-held device, and can be uncomfortable, even painful.  LED treatments are actually very soothing.

My top choice is the LightStim brand LED Light Therapy which is reported to be the most effective technology for achieving healthy and youthful skin. It is soothing, painless, and can be used on all skin types to diminish fine lines and wrinkles with no downtime. LED light therapy is a great post procedure to add on to the ongoing maintenance.

More and more brands are coming out with at-home LED systems so that you can treat these skin problems on your own. These at-home versions are less potent than professional lights, but can help maintaining the results achived in the office.
